Black-Red-Gold Reich Banner instituted

On 22 February 1924 in Magdeburg, the Black-Red-Gold Reich Banner is instituted at the initiative of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) with the support also of the Centre Party, the labour unions, and the German Democratic Party (DDP).

A non-partisan „Association of Combatants“, consisting mostly of war veterans, is formed to protect the Weimar Republic „against extreme left-wing and right-wing enemies“. By 1932 its membership will have grown to over three million.
