On 4 November 1924, the conservative British Prime Minister James R. MacDonald resigns his office after a significant loss of votes by his party in a by-election. The conservative politician Stanley Baldwin is elected as his successor. He then appoints Winston Churchill to his cabinet as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
