The indispensable industrial mass production during times of war has considerably increased pressures towards regulation and setting of norms. For that reason the „Committee of Norms for German Industry“ (NADI) introduces on 12 December 1917 the German Industrial Norms (DIN) which are in effect to this day. The first DIN number is assigned in March 1918: It regulates the sizes of conical taper pins which serve to hold machine parts together.
