Ecclesiastical memorandum against euthanasia

With a memorandum dated 9 July 1940, the Evangelical pastor Paul Gerhardt Braune reacts to the Nazi government’s „Euthanasia Programme“ for the „destruction of life unworthy of being maintained“. His protest is rewarded with several weeks of incarceration by the Gestapo. By 1941 ca. 70,000 physically or mentally disabled people in the German Reich are murdered in so-called nursing homes or sanatoriums.
