Exile of Leon D. Trotsky

On 17 January 1928, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (KPdSU), Joseph W. Stalin, sends his long-time opponent Leon D. Trotsky and other opposition leaders to exile in Alma-Ata.  Trotsky had been excluded from the KPdSU as early as November of 1927.
