On 12 October 1924 in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance, Hugo Eckener launches the Zeppelin LZ 126 on the first Atlantic crossing by an air ship. After a three-day flight, Eckener reaches the city of Lakehurst in New York state. The LZ 126 is handed over to the American navy as a portion of Germany’s reparation payments.
