Memorial for the „statement of Barmen“ |
As a counter weight to the National Socialist „German Christians“, in existence since 1930, the Evangelical „Confessional Church“ is founded on 29 May 1934 at the „Confessional Synod of Barmen“. It is intended to hinder the „consolidation“ of the Evangelical Church by the National Socialists and preserve Evangelical doctrine from National Socialist influence. Martin Niemöller and Dietrich Bonhoeffer are among the most famous members of the „Confessional Church“.
