German Luftwaffe
For a long time the NS leadership has been pressing ahead ever more intensely with a secret rearmament of the Reich. On 2 February 1935 Adolf Hitler publicly acknowledges the existence of a German air force (Luftwaffe) – a clear violation of the 1919 Treaty of Versailles which prohibited Germany from having fighter planes.
