Since the marriage of Prince Albert of Saxony-Coburg-Gotha with the English Queen Victoria I in the year 1840, the English royal house has borne the name „Saxony-Coburg-Gotha“. The war with the German Kaiserreich causes Britain’s King George V to change his family’s name on 17 July 1917 to „House of Windsor“ after Windsor Castle, the royal family’s residence.
