Marx’s resignation and Müller’s new cabinet
Reich Chancellor Wilhelm Marx (Centre) resigns on 12 June 1928 after his party’s defeat in the Reichstag elections on 20 May. Reich President Paul von Hindenburg (no party affiliation) immediately authorises Hermann Müller (SPD) to form a new government. On 28 June Müller will present his coalition cabinet of SPD, Centre, German People’s Party (DVP), German Democratic Party (DDP) and Bavarian People’s Party (BVP). Gustav Stresemann (DVP) remains Reich Foreign Minister.
