„Whole Germany is listening to the Führer ... with the people's radio receiver“. The type designation VE 301 reminds one of the takeover on 30 January |
At the 10th Great German Radio Exhibition in Berlin, Joseph Goebbels presents the people’s radio receiver „VE 301“ on 18 August 1933. This cathode ray tube radio, which is cheap to produce and therefore affordable for even modest German households, opens the way into German living rooms for Hitler’s propaganda minister. Foreign broadcasters, by contrast, can hardly be picked up by the AM-device. The people’s radio receiver becomes Goebbels‘ most important instrument for widespread propagandistic influence. By 1941 the proportion of households in Germany furnished with a radio will climb from a fourth to nearly two thirds.
