On 19 February 1937 the Sudeten Germans in Czechoslovakia are accorded official recognition as an „ethnic group“. Although they have comprised the second largest population group since the multi-nation state was founded in 1919, they were denied official status up to now. Simultaneously the Sudeten Germans and Hitler’s government increase their pressure on the government in Prague: Now they demand the Sudetenland’s „annexation“ to the German Reich.
