Treaty of Versailles presented

On 7 May 1919, the German delegation is presented the peace treaty text negotiated by the allies in the Parisian suburb of Versailles. Germany has to accept sole responsibility for the outbreak of the First World War. Additional conditions are of unprecedented severity: Germany is compelled to surrender large areas of its territory (Eupen-Malmedy, Eastern Upper Silesia, Posen and West Prussia, the Memel Land, and Danzig as well as all of its colonies). In addition come reparation payments in astronomical amounts. The professional German army is forbidden to exceed a maximum of 100,000 soldiers.
