WHW supports 12.5 million people

On 3 January 1936 the Winter Relief Organisation (WHW) publicly estimates the number of „German national comrades“ receiving its aid at 12.5 million. Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels comments on the increasing number of needy by stating that it is possible „when necessary, to do without butter once in a while, but never without cannons“.
