finishes secondary school

In 1927 Willy Brandt finishes secondary school.

As a gifted student, he receives at age 15 a scholarship to the Lübeck Johanneum, a highly regarded progressive high school. Willy Brandt becomes interested in political issues at an early age. He sees society’s best way of life in socialism .

The socialist youth movement becomes his home.

The spiritual father of Willy Brandt is the Lübeck social democrat, Julius Leber, the chief editor of the newspaper, the Lübecker Volksboten, member of the Lübeck town council, and delegate to the Reichstag. Leber soon becomes aware of the journalistic and political talents of Willy Brandt. Already at the age of 15, Brandt publishes contributions in the social-democratic Lübecker Volksboten.
